Chris Birk of Peru, is the first person in Indiana and the 7th person (non-IFI
staff) in the nation to hold all three fabricare certifications. Also now holding all
three certifications are William Dickerson and Loyce Luedtke.
WHAT IS CERTIFICATION?
Certification is a process whereby an individual is recognized by anassociation for
having met a predetermined set of criteria. Eligible individuals who pass a standard
examination are granted the right to use the industry-endorsed title, "Certified
Professional Drycleaner," "Certified Environmental Drycleaner," or
"Certified Professional Wetcleaner."
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR CERTIFICATION?
Any individual who owns or is employed in an operating plant is eligible to apply
for IFI's CED certification. Any individual who is a current Certified Environmental
Drycleaner or who has a minimum of three years of experience in the drycleaning industry
can apply for the CPD.
WHAT IS REQUIRED?
To achieve the status of CED, a successful candidate will achieve a satisfactory
score on a multiple-choice examination (approximately 150 questions) pertaining to
environmental regulations, proper waste handling, and safe drycleaning equipment operating
procedures.
A successful candidate will achieve the status of CPD when he/she achieves a
satisfactory score on a multiple-choice examination (approximately 250 questions)
pertaining to business management, customer service, fibers and fabrics, and the
drycleaning process.
Certified Environmental Drycleaners
The International Fabricate Institute's (IFI) Environmental
Certification Program promotes the environmentally safe operation of drycleaning
establishments by formally recognizing individuals who fulfill predetermined requirements.
Successful candidates will earn the right to use the title "Certified Environmental
Drycleaner."
Candidates for certification are required to take an examination of their knowledge
regarding environmentally appropriate ways of operating drycleaning equipment, disposing
of hazardous waste, and meeting other essential operating requirements.
Certified
Professional Drycleaners
The International Fabricare Institute's (IFI) Professional Drycleaner Certification
Program promotes the professional and safe operation of drycleaning establishment by
formally recognizing individuals who fulfill predetermined requirements. Successful
candidates will earn the right to use the title "Certified Professional
Drycleaner."
Candidates for certification are required to take an examination of their knowledge
regarding professional drycleaning and the implementation of prescribed drycleaning
standards for physical plant facilities and safe equipment operations.
